Ere Ibjei twin figures are made by the Yoruba to honor twins and are meant to hold much spiritual power. They are often commissioned when a twin passes away, to bring remembrance and representation of the deceased twin while also ensuring restored health and balance to the family and remaining twin. The Ere Ibjei figures are also known as a status symbol for the mother, having been spiritually blessed with twins. These carved wood pieces have original finish including indigo dye which is common in the creation of Ibjei figures. See less
