French Mid-Century Free-Form Vase – Sculpted Stoneware, Vallauris, 1970s
A large and striking free-form stoneware vase, stamped A.R., from Vallauris, circa 1970s. This sculpted ceramic piece showcases subtle neutral brown hues with undertones of gold and silver, reminiscent of Japanese “sho” (hovering) techniques.
The surface treatment and form highlight the expressive experimentation for which Vallauris ceramics are renowned. From the iridescent Massier wares of the Art Nouveau period to the bold mid-century glazes and sculptural designs, Vallauris potters consistently pushed the boundaries of ceramic art. This vase embodies that spirit, merging organic form with adventurous glazing.
Its warm, earthy palette makes it highly versatile—an eye-catching accent in mid-century, modern, or contemporary interiors. The piece has considerable weight, so it is not recommended for placement on glass table tops. In excellent condition, original and unaltered, with no imperfections.
