*george sowden and nathalie du pasquier are both icons of postmodern design of the 1980s.
*in 1997, before alessi began producing these lidded boxes, george sowden proposed this project to the french porcelain manufacturer pillivuyt. Nine prototypes with different patterns were produced.
*ultimately, however, alessi produced the box with three different patterns by nathalie du pasquier, george sowden, and one by alice fiorilli.
*this piece is stamped pillivuyt on the underside. George sowden explained the background in a personal email.
*a truly collectible piece in excellent condition and with an intriguing backstory!
