This is a beautiful rare pair of Meissen egg cups.
One showcases morning glory’s, and the other, daffodils.
These were originally a part of the "New Cutout" table service that was created in the mid-18th century by Meissen's master modeller Johann Joachim Kaendler. The delicate shape, reminiscent of flower petals, with a corrugated, pointed edge, is a rare example of Baroque modesty and has served as a canvas for countless famous artwork and continues to do so to this day. Applied en détail with fine brushstrokes, the manufactory's porcelain painters are able to capture these flowers here in all of its natural glory. Its artistic style was inspired by the flower still lifes of the Biedermeier period - the golden age of naturalistic flower painting at MEISSEN. The 24-carat gold-plated edge along the base and the lip of the cup frame the flower painting in befitting splendour.
