These are beautiful barbotine plates for special dinnerware for asparagus and artichoke courses, from the 1900s, made by Salins in France. Each plate has a little hollow on one side for the sauce.
The French traditionally love asparagus and will eat a plate as an entree to dinner with a buttery sauce. These plates were very popular in the past and would have shown the status of the family using dinnerware specifically for the asparagus course. The rim of the plate has a mustard yellow coloured basketweave pattern.
They would all have been hand painted and hence the colours vary slightly making them all unique.
None of them have chips or cracks. Crazing is present.
Diameter: 24cm/9.5 inches
Height: 3cm/1.25 inches
Weight of each plate: 532g
