This is an original hand-pulled lithograph (this is an original print, proofed by the artist,, NOT A DIGITAL PRINT!). It is signed on the stone, and also on the paper. It is an artist proof, number 3/5 (3 out of a proof edition of 5). The title is "Rencontre au Bois de Boulogne", or 'Meeting in the Woods'. van Dongen created it in 1950.
Van Dongen began to exhibit in Paris, and participated in the controversial "Salon d'Automne" exhibition of 1905. He was a Dutch/French painter, and one of the leading 'Fauves', a group of artists which included Paul Gauguin. He was a friend of Picasso.
After the First World War, under the influence of his companion, the fashion director Lea Alvin (Jasmy Jacob), among others, Van Dongen developed the lush colours of his Fauvist style.
