An elaborate Rococo Revival giltwood mirror with carved scrolling foliage, shell and acanthus flourishes, and playful putti figures. The frame incorporates five projecting shelves, originally intended to display porcelain vases or other treasured objects. The design is crowned with a shaped crest and inset mirror, giving the piece height and grandeur.
The back shows period construction with pegged and paneled joinery, consistent with late 19th to early 20th century Continental craftsmanship. Finished in a painted gold surface rather than true water gilding, which has developed a warm patina with age.
