This notable artist was born in Quang Tri, Vietnam and moved to France in 1939 to study at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Toulouse. While studying there he was awarded numerous prizes both for painting and sculpture and also won his first commission. An accomplished printmaker, Lebadang favors the techniques of etching, lithograph, and serigraph.
He continued to achieve success in Paris and acquired a following that recognized and appreciated his subtle blend of European and Far Eastern culture and the philosophies reflected in it. During this period, the director of the Far Eastern Department at UNESCO commissioned him to illustrate a book of poetry which was published by Editions Euros.
Lebadang had his first one-man show in the United States, in 1966, with an exhibition of his paintings at the Cincinnati Art Museum and has since exhibited widely and with success throughout the United States and has been the recipient of prestigious awards including the Gold Medal at the International Institute of St. Louis (1989). In addition to the United States, his work has been exhibited internationally in Tokyo, Dusseldorf, Paris, Nantes, Cologne, Cannes and Aix en Provence galleries among others. The artist's work is held in the permanent collections of numerous public institutions including the Rockefeller Collection, New York, the Loo Collection in Tokyo, the Verkerke Collection, Holland, the Phoenix Art Museum, USA; Cincinnati Museum, USA; Columbia Art Institute, USA; Lund University Museum, Sweden and the Museum of Arts and Letters, France.
