This 19th-century portrait of a dog and child exudes a mysterious charm that captivates viewers and leaves a lasting impression. The subdued, earthy tones contrast with the cheerful subject, making us eager to learn more about the scene. The purple K9 resembles a Great Dane, Bloodhound, Cane Corso, or Labrador in its mature years. The painting is clearly over 100 years old, as indicated by the dark canvas backing, framing, signs of wear, and nail assembly, which add character to the artwork. Unsigned.
We discovered a similar painting in pose online by a French artist named A. Liegaux, dated 1899, which may have been a study for this painting, or vice versa.
