This extraordinary pair of monumental Capodimonte majolica ewers was crafted in Italy circa 1870. Standing over 3 feet tall (36.75 inches high) and measuring 12.5 inches in diameter, each vessel features a gracefully flared spout and elongated neck, anchored by a marbled green pedestal base. Twisted faux-bois handles in high relief climb the sides, lending a sculptural, organic silhouette.
The hand-painted bodies are richly decorated with vibrant polychrome mythological scenes, Bacchic revelers, cherubs, and classical figures amid lush landscapes and ancient ruins. The reverse of each ewer depicts pastoral scenery with cottages and mountains, offering full 360-degree visual appeal. Applied floral garlands and raised putti further enhance the dimensional surface, exemplifying Capodimonte’s flair for theatrical, multi-layered decoration.
Minor glaze wear and a few small chips to applied flowers, consistent with age. Overall excellent condition.
A rare and imposing pair of 19th-century Capodimonte masterpieces, lavish in scale, detail, and decorative impact.
