It … Read more The chair is a sturdy, well made, using a series of joinery that has withstood the test of times. It has a high back, with a yoke top rail back and a plain back splat as support. A raised carving of a roundel featuring a coiled dragon is the only but distinctive decorative element. The frame is a rectangle supported by four slightly sprayed legs connected by stretchers. The apron going around the front has a beaded finish, and is evocative of the clean lines of Ming Dynasty style furniture. The seat is a piece of tightly woven bamboo mat over a criss cross string support, a replacement of the original. The chair has an antique patina, much of the original dark lacquer finish remains.
