Offered for sale is a pair of iconic Brazilian mid-century modern "Oscar" armchairs by Sergio Rodrigues in jacaranda wood with hand-caned backs and seats. Sergio Rodrigues was a Brazilian architect and furniture designer. This pair of armchairs date from the 1950's-1960's. Jacarandá wood structure (Brazilian hardwood, a testament to its originality), and restored cane in excellent condition. The chair was designed in 1956 and was an homage to Brazilian modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer - thus the name "Oscar" which were inspired by the forms and structures of the federal capital Brasilia which was fully conceived and brought to life by Niemeyer.
The chairs are unmarked but easily documented online as the Oscar chairs made by Rodrigues to celebrate the federal capital Brassila in 1956.
