The series includes several species, each carefully rendered with lifelike accuracy: 1. Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) and Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea), perched on rocks and in flight. 2. Black Tern (Chlidonias niger) and Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybrida), shown among reeds and water plants. 3. Sandwich Tern (Thalasseus sandvicensis), a group depicted along a rocky shoreline. 4. Grey Phalarope (Phalaropus fulicarius), three birds in a coastal landscape. 5. Arctic Skua (Stercorarius parasiticus), two birds in darker plumage with rugged background. 6. Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), a pair standing on coastal rocks. These prints were produced in the late 19th century using the chromolithographic technique, which allowed for vivid coloring and subtle gradations in plumage. Each plate is signed in the image with the initials "JK," identifying the artist. The series combines scientific detail with decorative artistry, reflecting the ornithological interest and aesthetic sensibilities of the period. Such sets are highly sought after by collectors of natural history illustration and provide timeless decorative appeal. Displayed together, they create a powerful visual statement of seabirds native to European coasts. Condition report: Good condition overall. Colors remain bright and detailed, with minor age toning and light handling marks in the margins. Plate marks are visible around the images, confirming authenticity. No tears or major blemishes. Frames are not included. Framing tips: To achieve a unified presentation, frame the six plates in matching dark wood or black frames with ivory or pale cream mats. This highlights the delicate hand-coloring and brings cohesion to the set. For a more decorative effect, individual gilt frames can be chosen, allowing each bird species to stand out as a separate artwork. Technique: Chromolithograph Maker: J.K.
