Elegant Chinese Dali Marble Scholar’s Stone with Stand, Late Qing / Republic Period
Prized large scholar’s rock (gongshi) displayed in its original carved wooden stand with aged patina. Known as a “dreamstone,” the polished marble reveals black, white, and green veining that resembles an ink painted landscape or mist-shrouded mountains. Stones of this scale and quality rarely appear outside of dedicated Asian art collections, making this a statement piece equally suited for collectors and interior designers.

Overall very good antique condition consistent with age and use. -Marble surface shows natural inclusions and veining typical of Dali dreamstones. -On one side/back edge, there is a shallow groove in the stone. It appears to be inherent to the stone or from original shaping rather than later damage or repair. This is only visible from certain angles and does not detract from the overall presentation. -Wooden stand shows surface wear and losses to lacquer, with expected patina from age, which supports an older age rather than a recent reproduction. less
