The "seated Turk" design commemorates the Ottoman Empire's victory in the Crimean War (1853-1856), in which they allied with the United Kingdom, Sardinia and France against Russia. Originally designed to function as an inkwell and pen holder, however today could be used to hold a small candle or flower or simply adorn a bookshelf or desk. See less
