His work combines traditional craftsmanship with a modernist aesthetic, and he is considered one of the most important American artisans of the 20th century.
His rocking chairs are now cult objects, exhibited in various renowned American museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The rocking chair is part of the White House inventory and was also privately owned by U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
