A richly carved 19th century Continental armchair, crafted in heavy mahogany and upholstered in its original velvet with floral needlepoint panels. The chair features deeply carved scroll arms, acanthus details, and a beautifully detailed stretcher base. Its generous proportions, substantial weight, and craftsmanship make it a commanding presence in any interior.
The upholstery is original, with areas of expected wear that add to its antique character. There are tears in the seat fabric and a slice on the back panel (see photos), which present an opportunity for reupholstery if desired. Many collectors and decorators choose to preserve the needlepoint, but this piece would also take on a stunning new look with updated fabric while retaining its masterfully carved frame.
