The striking beauty of this girandole mirror circa 1800 is seen in a moment. The eagle and all details are in carved wood smoothed with gesso and finished in gilt. The concave roundel is detailed with turned balls outside of foliate detail against a black painted reeded fillet. The patinaed mirror is a convex or so-called bull’s-eye type. Below is a leafage carved apron. All is in good condition with typical minor losses to gilt Old surface to reverse side. American or English.
Brighten a hallway, living area, or the dining room. In period homes that had staff, this mirror would allow the butler discretion to keep an eye on dinner guests' drinks and servings in order to replenish them properly.
