This Alexander Calder very rare vintage 1970 Mid Century Modernist " Spirale " Mourlot fine art lithograph print custom framed French exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print Modernist poster is printed in France in 1970 by Mourlot Paris in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " La Sculpture dans la Cite Reims : Quartier de L'Europe " exhibition. It features an artwork image created by the artists Alexander Calder titled " Siprale ", copyright Mourlot.
This is a rare opportunity for true Calder and Modernism fans and collectors, as this coveted image lithograph print poster is long out of print and very scarce to find.
Alexander Calder ( 1898 - 1976 ) was an American born Modernist artist. Although primarily known for both his innovative Kinetic mobiles and monumental public sculptures, Calder also created important paintings, prints, theater set designs, jewelry design, tapestries, rugs, and political and commercial commissioned posters. Born into a family of artists, his work first gained attention in the 1920's in Paris, and was soon championed by The Museum of Modern Art New York, resulting in his first retrospective exhibition in 1943. His artistic talents were world renowned by the 1960's. Calder is credited with creating some of the most important Modernist art works of The Twentieth Century.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was o be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
Beginning in the 1930's Fernand Mourlot invited the major master artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
The rare out of print framed exhibition poster print measures 20 5/8" W X 34 1/2" H X 1 1/8" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed beveled detail matte eggshell finish black wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, and very light signs of handling. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
