The Modernist exhibition poster print is published by the famous Galerie Denise Rene, Paris. Printed in France in 1968 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Peintures Recentes Oeuvres Graphiques " exhibition. It features an artwork image by Albers from his iconic series " Homage to the Square ".

Josef Albers ( 1888 - 1976 ) was a German born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and The United States formed the basis of Modern Art education programs of The 20th Century. Albers was a student at The Bauhaus in 1920, later being invited by the founder Walter Gropius to become an educator at the school. There his students included established artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
In the 1930's Albers emigrated to The United States where he would become head of the new art school Black Mountain College, and later in the 1950's he became head of the department of design at Yale University. His students in America included Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuskiewicz, and Eva Hesse among others.
Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker, and poet, Albers is best remembered for his work as an Abstract painter and an invaluable contributor as an art theorist of color theory. He is considered to be one of the most influential visual artists of The Twentieth Century. Artworks by Albers are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Galerie Denise Rene was a pioneering gallery, founded during the Paris liberation at the end of World War II, with a focus on Geometric Abstraction and Kinetic Art. It is famous in the history of Contemporary Art linked with this major artistic trend with international recognition. In the 1950's, the gallery presented the first exhibition in Paris of Piet Mondrian, as well as for the major artists of the European Avant-Garde Movement. Denise Rene won its reputation with many important exhibitions, its aesthetic choices, and international collaborations with the promotion of Geometric Modernist artworks. The gallery became a world renown destination for international Modern Art, showcasing the art works of an impressive list of the most influential luminaries of the art world.
The rare out of print framed Modernist exhibition poster measures 27 1/2" W X 35 1/2" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed beveled detail Chinese red persimmon orange matte eggshell finish wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and some light to moderate visible surface wear. it is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed.
