"Facade" - Intaglio Etching of a Brick Building with Trees
This etching by Ron Blumberg (b. 1908 d. 2002), features the outside facade of a brick building which is obscured by tree branches on the right side. The contrast between the bold swatches of light and the shadowed building areas create a bold composition. The details of the piece root it in observation but the overall composition contains a sense of abstraction common in Blumberg's works. On the bottom the piece reads " 'Facade' Intaglio 2/15 Ron Blumberg RB '71."
Ron Blumberg was born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1908. He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York and the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He taught in Houston and Dallas in the 1930s and then spent time in New York city. After working in New York, he eventually moved to California and worked in Los Angeles later in his career. Blumberg is known for creating art in a variety of styles, including impressionism, surrealism, abstraction, and cubism.
