Bethan ash is a professional quilt maker and teacher with a background in fashion design. She has exhibited widely and her work has been bought by museums in the UK and USA, including the Museum of Arts and design in New York. She is a member of the prestigious International quilt art group.
Rhosyn Du is Welsh for black rose.
Made in memory and dedication to the youngsters who have committed suicide.
The colors, black, white and violet represent despair, youth and mourning. The following poem is printed on the back of the quilt:
Rhosyn Du – Black Rose, you proudly Stand, wearing your summer dress of velvet petals; soft and bold. Just as the earth, wears a variegated cloak of grass and flowers, that covers the Vales dark mystery, where hollow deaths enfold.
Technique: Improvisational cut and fused wall quilt. Machine stitched and quilted
Materials: 100% cotton upper. Cotton filling and backing, applied silver thread.
Display requirements: One large wall space to allow for basic hanging from a batten.
