Raoul DUFY (1877 - 1953),
Study of a dress for Paul Poiret
Original watercolor drawing on paper,
initials stamp lower right, 32.5 x 25.2 cm
In 1910, Paul Poiret, seduced by Raoul Dufy's creations, offered him the chance to create fabrics. Together they founded a fabric printing workshop, "La petite usine", Dufy designed the patterns,
engraved the wood used for printing and sometimes printed himself. But it was in 1912, when he signed a collaboration contract with the Lyon silk factory Bianchini-Férier, that the artist fully
expressed his talent as a fabric designer and decorator.
Mrs. Fanny Guillon-Lafaille and Mr. David Guillon-Lafaille have confirmed the authenticity of this work.
This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
