A rare and finely crafted Japanese kanzashi (簪) hair ornament dating to the late Meiji–early Taishō era (c. 1890–1920). Fashioned in gilt metal, the hairpin is topped with a delicately modeled quail whose body with a surround of fixed feathers rotates —a playful flourish that animates the design. The quail (uzura) was a popular motif in Japanese art, symbolizing protection, harmony, and prosperity in marriage. Measuring 5.75" long, this is both an ornament of beauty and a miniature kinetic sculpture of cultural meaning and ready to bring a touch of Meiji elegance and symbolism to you or your collection.
