A striking lidded studio pottery vessel by American ceramicist Don McWhorter, dated March 1976 and hand-signed on the base. This sculptural piece features an elegant chalice-like form with dual side handles and a pedestal foot, finished in a speckled gray glaze. The body is adorned with incised tree motifs, echoing the natural world that inspired much of McWhorter’s work.
The lid is crowned with a finely modeled tree sculpture finial, adding both whimsy and symbolism to the vessel’s design. The organic textures and earthy palette highlight the artist’s mastery in combining functional pottery with sculptural expression.
