The vessel is finished in a warm reddish-brown patina with a contrasting gilt-brass rolled rim. Encircling the form is a boldly applied three-clawed dragon in high relief with its scaled body winding protectively around the pot and paired with a descending crane rendered in crisp detail. The dragon, a rain and water deity, symbolizes strength, protection, and good fortune, while the crane embodies longevity, fidelity, and peace. The downward-beaked crane is a traditional kōkaku (降鶴, alighting crane) motif, signifying grace and auspicious arrival rather than decline.
Originally made as a hibachi (brazier) with a removable liner (now missing), the open base is correct to form. Today, it presents beautifully as a jardinière, cachepot, or decorative accent ready to grace your home.
