This is an Outstanding Example of a Authentic Antique American Stoneware Storage Crock. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Beautifully and Artfully Hand Decorated with a Deep Blue Stylized Flower on a Very Nice Uniform Greige Color Salt Glazed Exterior. The Interior is Done in a Ox Blood Red Color. There is a Number 3 is Encompassed in the Flower Denoting its Larger Three Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Embossed Signed by the Maker BURGER & LANG - ROCHESTER NEW YORK. NOTE That This Piece was Produced by the Much Sought After by Today's Collectors and Widely Regarded as the Finest American Stoneware Decorator JOHN BURGER Sr. George Lang Married John Burger's Daughter, Mary, and Joined the business in 1870. He Left the Company in 1876 so this "BURGER AND LANG" Mark Confirms The Time Frame that it was Produced. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. It is in Very Good All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It is Strong and Sound - Perfectly Usable. Imperfections Noted - Large Chip to the Left Side Handle. 2 Smaller Chips to the Right Side Handle. Also Very Faint Surface Only Glaze Hairline and Right Handle Area. There is Also a Very Small "Iron Ping" Surface Only Chip to the Right of the Flower Leaf but This Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. These Types of Surface Chips are Quite Common as these Types of Stoneware Items were Produced in Batches with Multiple Other Pieces at at The Same Time in a Large Size Kilns.
