Sculptural tessellated coral pedestal with brass trim. A rare form that adds interest and a unique form to display the most special sculpture or a wonderful floral display.
Created from a substrate of wood for a heavyweight base, then adorned with real coral and trimmed in brass. The original Maitland Smith maker label remains to base, with Philippines production, circa 1980s.
Such a wonderful serpentine, undulating form that appears slightly different, yet beautiful from all sides. If one had a central position, such as an entry hall for this piece, where it could be experienced from multiple directions, it would be a standout.
The beautifully carved and placed coral provides a variegated coloration in neutral tones, with the brass creating a frame-like edge.
