The popular ‘Tenera’ series is known for … Read more 1960’s Mid-Century Royal Copenhagen Aluminia ‘Tenera’ Faience Oval Temple Vase by Kari Christensen. The popular ‘Tenera’ series is known for its hand-painted designs by Scandinavian women. Marked on its base with the company's symbol, the artist's initials, and a production number 181/2878. The vase's bulbous form ends at a narrowing neck and is decorated with botanicals emerging from a vase in a whimsical freeform hand painted pattern. Kari Christensen (1938-1997) was a leading Norwegian ceramic artist. Between 1961 and 1965 she was employed as a designer at the Alumina factory (Royal Copenhagen) where she was one a group of 6 designers who worked on the Tenera range developed by the then art director Nils Thorsson. Royal Copenhagen, officially the Royal Porcelain Factory, was founded in Copenhagen in 1775 under the protection of Danish Dowager Queen Juliane Marie.
