A finely cast and naturalistically modeled bronze figural sculpture depicting a pair of cockatoos perched side-by-side on a sinuous, gilt branch, which curves gracefully across a broad repoussé leaf-form base. The birds, captured in tender profile as if in courtship or gentle dialogue, are meticulously detailed with stippled and textured patination across their bodies and gilt accents highlighting the wings, beaks, eyes, and crests. The rich parcel-gilt treatment enhances the contrasting surface finishes, particularly the hammered veining on the leaf base and the chased featherwork on the birds.
The base is formed as a stylized foliate platform with irregular, organic edges and visible casting marks to the underside, suggesting lost-wax technique. Three screw mounts affix the birds and branch to the leaf. No foundry mark is visible, but the overall form and technical refinement suggest a likely origin in Vienna or Paris, circa 1880–1910, in the manner of the Franz Bergman foundry or comparable ateliers known for naturalistic animalier bronzes.
