Solid Wild Cherry Wood Hand Turned Decorative Large Vessel From the Australian Daintree Rainforest, QLD
Here is a rare and stunning surviving artifact from the Timber Museum & Gallery, Queensland, Australia. This vessel or decorative vase is from the commercial operation ( Timber Museum & Gallery QLD ) that operated from 1991 to 2010. The specific mission of the company was to harvest select woods from the rainforest and turn them into masterful works of arts that gave honor to the ancient trees, educated the public and provided beautiful, long lasting pieces of natural decor to those who longed to have primeval nature closer to them.
The Daintree National Forest from where this solid one piece wild cherry sculpture originates is over 180 million years old and pre-dates the dinosaurs.
The vessel/ vase is in very good used condition. It still has its original highly polished finished. There are natural, intrinsic imperfections. There is some bark incorporated into the sculpting/ hand turning at the very top and on the sides ( the sides are more like 'underbark'). The two end points that are open- these are both natural formations and it looks like the artist chose those opposite ends- on the short side to show that feature. The wider side has the center underbark as it seems. But the whole vase is from one piece of wild cherry wood. There is no piecing together- no joints.
Vase holds the original sticker from the shop.
This is obviously unable to hold water by design to serve as a traditional vase, so the new owner has the excitement of using their vision and creativity if assigning a specific function.

This is hefty- it weighs almost 13 pounds.
it is a bit under 10 inches long
about 9 inches wide
and about 8 1/2 inches tall
My husband & I don't remember exactly when and where we acquired this beauty, but we have owned it for over 5 years and have now decided to bring it to market here on Chairish who happily accepted it.
