Born Fernando Martins in 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal, Saint Anthony of Padua was a Franciscan monk renowned for his eloquence, deep faith, and numerous miracles. A preacher and theologian, he traveled throughout Italy and France to combat heresy and help the poor. He died in 1231 and was canonized a year later. Today, he is the patron saint of lost objects and one of the most venerated saints in the world.

Handcrafted in France in the 1940s and 1950s, the frame is made of wood and gold-leaf gilded stucco, carved in a Baroque style.
