Pierre Theunis was born in Antwerp in 1883.
He trained as a sculptor in Brussels, studying with artists including Dillens, Van der Stappen, Jacquet, and Lefèvre.
As a young sculptor, his work won several awards. In 1903, he received second prize at the Godecharle Competition, in 1906 second prize at the Prix de Rome, and in 1910 the silver medal at the 1910 World's Fair in Brussels. from 1904 to 1910, he worked in Thomas Vinçotte's studio. During this period, he collaborated on the equestrian statue of Leopold II at the Place du Trône in Brussels. Pierre Theunis created sculptures, which can be seen in public spaces in various Belgian locations.
He also designed a large number of medals and plaques
