This model 301 armchair was designed by ejvind a. Johansson for the danish manufacturer godtfred h. Petersen at the turn of 1958/59. The model 301 is the quintessence of 1950s danish style – subtle and incredibly comfortable. Its harmonious form combines natural lightness with profound functionality, creating a piece of furniture that is both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The armchair's frame, crafted from solid wood, captivates with its slenderness, delicate curves, and precise polish. The slightly sloping oak legs, organic backrest line, and smooth transitions between elements create a dynamic yet calm and balanced overall look. The seat and backrest have been reupholstered in a high-quality fabric that catches the eye with its deep, aqua-blue hue. Thanks to its compact proportions, it fits perfectly into both modern and classic spaces.
ejvind a. Johansson (1923 to 2002). He was a danish architect and furniture designer, considered one of the successors of the danish modernist tradition. He studied at the school of decorative arts in copenhagen and collaborated with børge mogensen, among others. In the 1950s and 1960s, he created elegant, functional furniture—particularly armchairs and chairs—characterized by organic lines, subtle joinery details, and perfect proportions. His designs, such as the model 301 armchair, were distinguished by their visual lightness, precision craftsmanship, and ergonomics. Although somewhat less well-known today than his renowned contemporaries, johansson gained collectors' recognition as a creator of classic, timeless forms with soul.
