A Scandinavian rya rug or wall hanging designed in the 1970s for EGE Rya, a subsidiary of Denmark's most prestigious carpet manufacturer, EGE Taepper. EGE used this rya in a 1960s advertising campaign for wall decor. The bold and whimsical design depicts a colorful, abstracted rooster in shades of orange, red, and golden yellow outlined in black against a creamy off-white ground of 100% pure wool. This rya was professionally cleaned and is in very good condition with strong colors and minimal wear, measuring 44 in. L x 26 in. W.
Rya rugs or ryamatta are traditional Scandinavian wool rugs characterized by their shaggy and luxurious pile. These versatile pieces of home decor were used interchangeably as carpets, bed coverings, and wall hangings.
