It is a two-piece basket box handcrafted from rattan weavers. Naturally aged lacquered rattan has mellowed into a tawny hue. The tail and body feathers were fashioned from bent and shaped bamboo wood slivers. The head knob and carved bill are made from bamboo wood; wood and glass button eyes. This cutie measures as follows:

Overall: 6¼” x 4½” x 9¼” W/D/H
Interior: 4¾” x 3” x 2½” W/D/H (bottom portion)
Weight: 4 oz.

In overall excellent condition. There is age-appropriate wear that does not detract from its beauty or utility that includes a couple broken feathers on the backside and right side, which are for the most part, indiscernible. See closeup photos 4, 7, 8, & 12. This rattan and bamboo cutie was handcrafted by Shanghai Handicrafts about the time President Nixon opened trade between China and the United States, sometime in the early to mid 1970s.

For a collector of playful figural handwoven basket boxes, this cutie should be a must have or the perfect gift for someone who is.
