A striking antique ceramic oval platter decorated in a vivid chinoiserie inspired palette of cobalt blue, deep red and mustard.
The central scene depicts an exotic bird among flowering branches, surrounded by smaller songbirds, butterflies, and blossoms.
The wide border features a repeating bird-and-floral motif.
The scalloped edge detail often appeared in the Aesthetic Movement and chinoiserie inspired ceramics of the late 1800s.
The back is unmarked, consistent with 19th century English or Continental pottery. Its hand painted overglaze enamel details highlight the transfer printed design, adding texture and vibrancy.
A beautiful decorative piece for display or wall mounting, and large enough to use as a serving platter.
