A substantial blanc de Chine porcelain bust of Guanyin (Kwan Yin), the beloved Bodhisattva of Compassion, finished in a luminous ivory glaze. The headdress is richly modeled with ribbed tiers, beaded strands, and a central cartouche depicting a seated Buddha, while the serene face is softly rendered with closed eyes and a peaceful expression.
Who She Is: Guanyin, known as the “One Who Hears the Cries of the World”, is one of the most revered figures in East Asian Buddhism. She embodies mercy, kindness, and protection — often invoked for compassion, safe passage, and comfort in times of difficulty. The small Buddha in her crown represents Amitabha, her spiritual guide, reinforcing her role as an intercessor of light and compassion.
Impressed Dehua workshop seal (and ancillary round stamp) to the back of the base, consistent with late-20th-century production from Fujian, China.
