Here for sale is one breathtaking Eastside Club Lounge Chair designed by Ettore Sottsass for Knoll, a quintessential piece of 1980s postmodern design from the founder of Memphis. The Eastside collection takes cues from Biedermeier style, utilizing color in a playful and artistic manner.
This chair is upholstered in Knoll wool textile featuring shades of grey, blue, and tan. It is a classic piece, showing only minimal wear from light use and is in nearly new condition. It comes signed and labeled.

In 1983, shortly after establishing the Memphis group, Sottsass branched out to collaborate with Knoll Studio, leading to the creation of the Eastside and Westside collections. Drawing inspiration from his enduring admiration for Viennese Biedermeier chairs, which are known for their comfortable seating and sleek lines with minimal embellishment, the collection features geometric sofas and lounge chairs with vibrant color-blocked upholstery. Despite his avant-garde style, Sottsass held a profound respect for ancient art and architecture—particularly Sumerian, Assyrian, and Chinese—which influenced his choice to photograph the collection against the majestic backdrop of the Great Pyramids of Giza.
