"Que pico de Oro" (What a Golden Beak) - Etching and Aquatint on Paper
5th or 8th edition print of "Que pico de Oro" from the Los Caprichos with burnished aquatints, drypoints etching, and engravings by Franciso de Goya (Spanish, 1746-1828). Fine impression in black ink on wove paper. Seven men wearing the tonsure haircut of the clergy sit on the ground looking up at a parrot on an elevate platform. The parrots beak is open and the men are listening to it speak with upturned faces. This piece was likely a critique of empty and sensationalist rhetoric used by preachers or other public figures. Titled "Que pico de Oro" at the bottom, meaning "What a Golden Beak." Numbered "53" in the upper right corner, just inside the plate.
Based on the thin wove paper, black ink, and crispness of the lines this is likely an 8th edition print. The 8th edition was printed by the Calcografia Nacional for the Real Academia between 1905-1907. This edition was limited to 180 copies.
