Vintage Millie Breen signed serigraph titled Consider the Behemoth I Made With Thee (4/50). Brushed silver metal frame. In the Book of Job, the Behemoth symbolizes God's immense power and creation, highlighting the vast gap between divine and human understanding. It also represents the forces of nature, chaos, and the untamed power of the natural world.
About the Artist:
On a national scale, Mrs. Millie Breen was perhaps the best known no-academic in the Lafayette, Indiana Jewish community. Her artwork not only graces the homes of many community members, but is found in museums and private collections throughout the United States. She is best known for her "Jewish Art" with topics ranging from the biblical to reflections of modem Israel. Mrs. Breen was generous with her time and her talent. Temple Israel, the Sons of Abraham, and the Purdue Jewish Studies Program were all recipients of her works. In most cases these were donated and used as the basis of very successful fundraising projects. Bom in Chicago in 1926, Mrs. Breen came to Lafayette in 1957 with her husband, Leonard Breen, who later became head of the Purdue University Sociology Department. The move was a setback for Mrs. Breen, who had just begun making her mark on the Chicago art scene. Yet, it was her move to Lafayette that propelled her into the world of Jewish Art. In 1971 she was chosen to illustrate the 1971 edition of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods annual calendar. Her great loves were art, Judaism, and the State of Israel and she was fortunate in often being able to combine the three in her life and in her work.
