This trio shows wonderful character and hand craftsmanship that has stood the test of time. Sturdy functionality is bolstered by double-box stretchers, solid plank shield seats (most likely elm), and period correct socket and wedged construction. The rounded tablet tops, which feature small ogee arches, are secured with upward tapering spindles and pegged into the rear posts. One of the three chairs presents subtle variation from the other matched pair, having simple turning to the rear posts rather than the front legs. This chair exhibits a more defined saddling work as well.
These well-preserved Windsors display a minimal rustic elegance imbued with historical authority, unassuming but always appreciated!
