GUILLERMO SILVA
Painter, sculptor, engraver, writer and Yoga teacher, Guillermo Silva was born on June 7th, 1921, in Bogota, Colombia. Died on June 29th 2007.
When he was forty years old, he married Maria Galindo, a beautiful Mexican girl. They had two children together; a son Juan, and a daughter Sandra. While living in Mexico City as a Master Engraver, he taught engraving at UNAM and the Ibéro-Americain University. While there he developed the technique of Intaglio and "Mixed Technique" etching with watercolor.
He then moved to India with his family. While living there for 10 years, he studied Yoga. He eventually became a Yoga teacher and a competent naturalist.
While traveling all over the world, Senor Silva was looking for a perfect place to live and work. He and his family finally decided to settle in Malaga, which is located in Southern Spain. Although they "settled" down there, his curiosity and restlessness never let him stop exploring and experiencing life and the world. During last 10 years, the Silva family has spent the summers in Norway.
Japon (or Japan) paper is thin, slightly transparent, and satiny but at the same time it is extremely resistant. When viewed by light from behind it has a mottled appearance, some with fibers clearly visible. It is more creamy-yellow in color than Arches, but there is hardly any difference in the color of the image.
Arches paper is a type of air-dried paper that is preferred amongst printers and watercolorists. It has a warm-white color and a medium-smooth texture. Arches paper is valued for its durability, and is still made today at the Arches paper mill in Lorraine, France, where it has been milled for over 500 years.
