Louis Icart (1888-1950) was known for his glamorous and sensual depictions of women, strongly associated with the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 30s. Et voilà! “Recollections” perfectly showcases the artist’s blend of romanticism with the sophistication of the Art Deco period. His style was said to be influenced by 18th-century French masters like Watteau and Fragonard, as well as Symbolists like Gustave Moreau. Not only is this work a notable example of Icart's characteristic style, but it also exemplifies his mastery of etching and aquatint techniques, which brought him significant artistic and financial success, just what one needed to mingle in Jazz Age Paris.
