A vibrant expressionist mid-century landscape captures a rustic rural scene bathed in the warm glow of a setting sun, executed in oil onto board.

A winding path leads the viewer’s eye into the composition, where clusters of red barns and a white farmhouse sit nestled among rolling green fields and deep blue hills. The horizon blazes with golden and amber tones, suggesting the fleeting light of early evening.

Executed in a bold, expressionistic style, the artist has used thick, confident impasto brushstrokes, allowing the paint to stand proud from the surface and convey a palpable sense of texture and movement. Colours are rich and saturated – crimson, emerald, orange, violet, and cobalt – layered to create depth and contrast.
