Pair of Empire Ivory and Gold Vases, 1800s. These two-handled vases are carved with Empire-style plant motifs and decorated with an ivory and fine gold lacquer finish.
The circular vases rest on a square base adorned with geometric grooves, which was added after the original vase.
Like most altar furnishings, the backs of the vases are undecorated; they were originally placed on a side altar against the wall and therefore not visible from behind, but only from the front.
The overall condition is good, with signs of wear consistent with an early 19th-century date and a restoration on one arm. They could become two splendid bases for antique Empire-style lamps.
