An mid-century modernist still life captures a crisp arrangement of three green apples and two golden pears set against a cool-toned tabletop, executed oil oil onto board and dated 1957.

The fruits are rendered with bold, simplified forms and flat planes of colour, each outlined with confident, dark contours that lend a graphic quality to the composition. The artist plays with angular shadows in deep violet and blue, creating a striking contrast against the pale lavender and white ground, while a touch of light blue along the left edge suggests a shift in surface or perspective.

The palette is vivid and complementary: fresh, luscious greens for the apples, golden browns for the pears, and a cool spectrum of purples and blues in the shadows and background. Broad, visible brushstrokes add texture and vitality, with areas of paint applied in solid, unblended blocks to enhance the modernist aesthetic.

This oil on board is housed in a classic wooden frame with a thin gilt inner edge and set within a wide, grey-coloured mount. The painting shows some very light craquelure to the bottom right, though the paint layer remains stable overall. There is a red mark visible on the left side of the inner frame as shown.
