A woodcut print depicting the mythical Himmapan Forest. Said to be located in the Himalaya Mountains, and located below the Buddhist heavens. The forest is invisible to the eyes of mortals, who can never approach or enter. Most of the mythical creatures seen in Indian and Thai art/old literature live in the mythical Himmapan Forest.
A common theme seen in temples and on monastic furniture, the rendering is hand-carved in wood in exquisite detail, then carefully inked and applied to handmade paper. An elaborate and opulent scene, upon closer inspection, an array of forest animals and mythical creatures emerges.
The work is beautifully framed with a textured linen mat surround.
