The composition is built from overlapping angular planes and simplified architectural forms, evoking a sense of spatial tension and balance. A circular motif intersected by sharp lines anchors the work, drawing the eye into the center of the composition. American painter and sculptor, David Segel studied at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Lynchburg College in Virginia, the Institute of Design in Chicago, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Segel then moved to Paris to work and teach, and began what would be a prolific career.
His work has been shown in galleries from Paris, France, to Los Angeles, California, including the Whitney Museum in New York City. Segal also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.
He worked with a variety of mediums, including oils, bronze and wood sculptures, as well as dramatic sketches.
Segal's work is represented in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art. See less
