This bench was designed in the same style as chair no. 17, later no. 207 R / 207 RF (also called Lange Jan or Long John), a design from ca. 1865 by the founder of Thonet, Michael Thonet. Thonet is said to have based this design on the architecture of the Crystal Palace (destroyed by fire in 1936), where The London Great Exhibition took place in 1851 and where Thonet exhibited chairs for the first time. This example dates from the late 1970s when Thonet furniture came back into fashion. The bench is in good vintage condition with normal signs of wear and age for this type of furniture (made of bent wood). The rattan seat was renewed in 2025.
